Pest Management Professionals FAQ's

No, Aprehend® must be applied with the Aprehend® spray application kit. This kit enables the application of the undiluted (Ready to use) oil formulation at ultra-low volume rates, which are economic, effective and invisible. Aprehend® must never be diluted, or applied using standard application equipment.

Aprehend® is best stored as cool as possible. Normal room temperature, away from direct sunlight or heat is fine. Do not keep your stock of Aprehend® in your vehicle if temperatures are likely to rise above 85°F. Only take sufficient product to cover the jobs for any given day. During the winter months, Aprehend® can be left in your vehicle overnight; freezing temperatures will not affect the efficacy of Aprehend®.

The recommended storage temperature on the label states safe storage between 40°F and 77°F but lower temperatures will not affect efficacy.

The pouch can be used as a waist, shoulder, or crossbody pouch. Simply adjust the strap accordingly; it adjusts 28-59” (71–150cm).

No, Aprehend® is a completely different formulation that has been designed for indoor use against bed bugs. This formulation ensures that the product is effective even at very low humidity (<20% relative humidity), and has a long residual action (up to 3 months). These aspects are absolutely critical for effective bed bug control.

Yes, the mode of action for Aprehend® is completely different to chemical insecticides, so resistance mechanisms are not effective against Aprehend®.

Unfortunately, Aprehend® is not very effective when applied to carpet.  A dust-based product would be a better choice when carpet treatment is necessary. We recommend CimeXa, available from Rockwell Labs, Ltd.

No, application of Aprehend® to hard flooring surfaces can pose a slipping hazard. Use alternative products if these surfaces require treatment.

Aprehend® should not be applied inside electrical outlets, but if bed bug infestation is suspected inside electrical outlets, a 2” spray barrier applied to the wall around the perimeter of the outlet or switch will ensure that any bed bugs emerging from behind the base plate will have to cross an Aprehend® barrier.

Yes, apply Aprehend® along the top edge of baseboards, ensuring that the spray barrier covers the top 1” of the base board and 1” of the wall above the base board.  This will ensure that any bed bugs emerging from behind the baseboard will have to cross a section of the spray barrier regardless of whether they crawl up the wall or down the baseboard to the floor.

Yes, Aprehend® can and should be applied to metal, wood and fabric-covered bed frames.

No, Aprehend® is not labeled for use on mattresses. The best treatment options for mattresses are physical removal (vacuum), steam or cryonite, contact insecticides, or encasements. All these methods target visible bed bugs and ensure their removal/death and are likely to provide good, cost-effective treatment.  And since mattresses are usually covered with a sheet following treatment, Aprehend barriers placed here would not be easily encountered by bed bugs seeking a blood meal.

The principle behind Aprehend is as a residual insecticide targeting the bed bugs that are NOT accessible for direct treatment/removal. The most effective barrier placement is around the top, side, and bottom perimeters of the box spring or equivalent areas on bed frames.

Aprehend® will work best if applied to clean, dry surfaces.  Thick layers of dust and debris will absorb the Aprehend® spray, and will reduce its long-term efficacy.

Aprehend® is not intended to be applied directly to bed bug eggs, as these tend to be well hidden.  However, if a cluster of bed bug eggs is sprayed with Aprehend®, they will no longer be viable.

In this situation, it is best to ask the resident where they usually sleep. Check chairs and sofas for signs of infestation, and apply Aprehend® to the underside of these furniture items, as well as the seating area below the cushions.  Then apply around baseboards, ceiling corners, window and door frames, around vents and electrical outlets.

No, Aprehend® cannot be tank mixed with any other pesticide. The reason for this is that all other pesticide products are diluted with water, and addition of water to Aprehend® will render it ineffective. However, Aprehend® can be applied to surfaces that may have been previously treated with chemical insecticides, providing they have fully dried.

No, Aprehend® should not be applied to the top surfaces of seats or cushions. Always apply Aprehend® to areas where direct human contact will not result in the spray barrier being inadvertently removed by human contact. If possible, remove seat cushions and apply Aprehend® to the seating area under the cushions.

No, Aprehend® should not be sprayed directly inside air vents. However, if bed bugs are suspected to be inside air vents, or may be using these to travel between rooms/apartments, apply a 2” barrier on the wall around the perimeter of the air vent.  This will ensure that any bed bugs emerging from the vent will be exposed to the barrier.

Dust products are useful components of a complete bed bug treatment, and can be used in places where Aprehend® may be less effective, such as under carpet edges around baseboard areas. Providing dust is not applied in the same locations as Aprehend®, it does not matter which product is applied first. However, Aprehend® and dust products will cancel out each other’s effect if applied on top of each other, so always ensure that they are used in separate locations.

Aprehend® should not be applied to surfaces that are >100°F.  Test surface temperatures with an infrared temperature sensor.  If no temperature sensor is available, test the surface by hand, it should feel no warmer than hand-hot.

ConidioTec warrants sprayer equipment to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for a period of one (1) year for the original invoice date. We agree, at our option during the warranty period, to repair or replace any defective product without charge. Such repair or replacement is subject to return of defective product for verification of the defect or malfunction and proof of purchase as confirmed by showing the original dated sales receipt.

Yes, providing the surface is dry, the chemical residues in most commonly used pesticides will not affect Aprehend®.  The only exceptions to this are essential oil-based products like EcoRaider/EcoVenger and products with anti-fungal properties like Steri-Fab. Residues from these products do appear to impact the viability of the fungal spores, so if there is evidence that this type of product has been used, then the surface should be cleaned and dried before application of Aprehend®.
